These terms apply to your use of the NAS Salvage software and the website nassalvage.com (together, the “Service”). “We”, “us” and “NAS Salvage” mean the operator of the Service. By using the Service or buying tokens you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. What the Service does
NAS Salvage is software that runs on your own PC, connects to a Synology NAS on your network, reads it, and tries to recover original photos, videos and documents that remain after a ransomware attack. Recovered files are saved to a folder or drive on your PC that you choose. The software does not decrypt the ransomware and does not need or use the attacker’s key.
2. Licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the software to recover files from NAS devices that you own or are authorised to manage. You may not:
- copy, sell, rent, sublicense or share the software or your licence;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the software, or try to extract its methods or any keys or instructions used by it, except where the law does not allow this restriction;
- use the software on a NAS or data that you do not own or have permission to access;
- use the software to attack, probe or harm any system.
3. Your responsibilities
- You are responsible for having the right to access the NAS and the data on it.
- Follow the on-screen and website guidance before you start, in particular: keep the NAS off the internet and stop anything that writes new data to it. New data can overwrite information that could still have been recovered.
- Keep your own copies of anything important. Start with a small test folder, check the preview, and check recovered files before you rely on them.
- You enter your NAS password yourself. The software keeps it in memory for the session only.
4. No guarantee of results
Whether a file can be recovered depends on the NAS model and settings, what has been written to the NAS since the attack, and the state of the data. We cannot promise that any particular file, folder or percentage will be recovered. Recovered photos can be cropped, partly grey or different from the original, and recovered videos can be shorter or have no sound. The free scan, the report and the previews exist so you can judge the result before you pay. Example figures on our website come from a test on one NAS and are not a promise about yours.
5. Tokens and prices
- 1 token covers 1 MB of recovered file size, rounded up per file. 1,000 tokens (1 GB) cost USD 0.35 at list price.
- Tokens are deducted only when a recovered file is saved to your folder. Scanning, the report, previews and files that cannot be recovered do not use tokens.
- Each NAS receives 1 GB (1,000 tokens) free once, on its first connection. We may use an anonymous code derived from the NAS to make sure the free allowance is given once per NAS. We may refuse or remove free tokens that were obtained by abusing this.
- Tokens are linked to your licence, cannot be transferred or exchanged for money, and are non-refundable as set out in the refund policy.
- We may change prices for future purchases. A price change does not affect tokens you have already bought.
6. Payments
Orders are taken and processed by Paddle, our merchant of record, which is the seller of record for your purchase. Paddle’s checkout shows the final price including any applicable taxes, and Paddle issues your receipt. Your payment details are given to Paddle and not to us. Paddle’s own terms for buyers also apply to your purchase.
7. Automated diagnostics
If the software meets a problem it cannot resolve on your PC, it may send a short technical description of that problem, with passwords, keys, network addresses, email addresses, account names and non-Latin folder and file names removed, and never including file contents, to a diagnostic service we operate. Ordinary Latin-letter file names can remain in it. That service may use third-party processors for automated analysis to suggest what to do. Any suggestion is applied only when the software’s own checks accept the result. See the privacy policy.
8. Our liability
The Service is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for data that cannot be recovered, for data that was already lost or overwritten, for indirect or consequential losses (such as lost profits, business interruption or loss of goodwill), or for problems caused by your NAS, your network, other software or third parties. Our total liability to you for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid for tokens in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, and nothing here takes away rights you have as a consumer under the law of your country.
9. Third-party trademarks
NAS Salvage is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Synology Inc. Synology and DiskStation are trademarks of Synology Inc.
10. Changes and ending
We may update these terms and the software. The date at the top shows when they last changed; if a change is significant we will tell you in the software or on this site. You can stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or end access if you break these terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, without taking away the mandatory consumer-protection rights you have under the law of the country where you live. Disputes are for the courts that have jurisdiction under that law.
